Environmental and food safety regulations of European Union limited the usage of copper containing fungicides and bactericides. They limited the amount of copper that could be applied in one year and in one hectare. However they assigned the right of decision on the introduction and the extent of limitation to the national authorities. Individual countries e.g. Austria limited the amount of copper (metal) to 2 kgs/ha/year, the Netherlands did to 0.5 kg/ha/year from the former 8 kg value. It means that farmers could not control bacterial and fungal plant diseases efficiently.
This problem could be solved by the application of adjuvant that could increase the efficacy of copper containing products. These adjuvants consist of fat and oil derivatives.
We apply adjuvants of natural plant origin in her products to decrease the recommended rates of application. These adjuvants facilitate to decrease the rates of application of copper and sulphur containing fungicides. The adjuvants are oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. The rate of application could be decreased by 40-60% in the case of copper products while these figures are 20-30% in the case of captan containing products. The copper hydroxide content of Cuprol of BÉVÉEM Növényvédõszer Kft. is of 24% and that of a similar product named Champion 50 WP (NuFarm Austria GmbH) is of 77%. These products have the same rates of application: 2-3 liters/ha and 2-3 kgs/ha. This means that the usage of 2 kgs/ha Champion 50WP enables two applications/year and the usage of 2 liters/ha Cuprol enables five applications/year in a country that introduced a limitation like in Austria. Cuprol is competitive to the latest products that are of the best efficacy and of the lowest copper loading like Kocide 2000 (DuPont, USA) and Champion 2 FL (NuFarm, Austria GmbH). They have the rates of application 1.75-2.0 kgs and liters /ha and copper content of 54% and 36% respectively. The amount of copper hydroxide by application is 0.9-1.1 kg/ha for Kocide 2000, 0.6-0.72 kg/ha for Champion 2 FL and 0.48-0.72 kg/ha for Cuprol.
We have the product named Cuprosul also containing copper hydroxide, sulphur and adjuvant. There is not any product of contact efficacy on the European market that would have the same composition (according to our knowledge).
Cuprol can be used against bacterial and fungal diseases in vegetables (green pepper, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, eggplants, cauliflower, tomatoes, onions, strawberries), ornamental plants, grapes, olives, citrus fruits, rice and cereals.
Cuprosul can be used against bacterial and fungal diseases as prevention and for thinning some insects in apples, pears, peaches, apricots, cherries, citrus fruits, olives, grapes as winter overhead application. It is recommended in grapes, cereals, citrus fruits, and vegetables in the growing season.
Summary of the efficacy of Cuprol and Cuprosul:
- they contain environmentally friendly adjuvants based on plant oil,
- the adjuvants increase the biological efficacy of Cuprol and Cuprosul to keep the copper loading of the environment on a minimum level,
- the biological efficacy of the products is excellent in spite of the low rate of application of copper,
- they are competitive to the copper containing products of the multinational companies,
- Cuprol and Cuprosul can be used in a large scale of crops against to nearly all the plant diseases,
- they could be adopt to the organic farming and integrated plant protection technologies,
- they are competitive regarding to the cost of application per hectare
